• Hi everyone, I am having issues with the WordPress back-end not properly loading images into posts or pages.

When I select an image to upload using either the Flash or Browser uploader the image is pulled but instead of the usual 100% loader bar, the loader flickers at the 0% mark and goes to the name/tag/align screen. In place of the usual image thumbnail is a blank space, but if I click “edit Image” I can see the image. Clicking “insert into post” merely yields a broken image link or a question mark depending on the browser.

I have checked the html and the ftp locations to make sure that all the information is correct, and the files are uploading properly.

This is a relatively new problem on this particular site. A few weeks ago images were uploading fine. I have tried uploading on multiple machines using multiple browsers, and my other wordpress sites upload their images fine. I contacted technical support but they said it wasn’t a server-side issue.

Anybody run into this problem before?

    Thanks

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

What’s the uploads path in Admin/Settings/Miscellaneous?

Any chance of a link to a page/post showing broken images?

esmi, thanks for your reply. the uploads path was wrong – it was linked to the old staging directory we had set before going live. thanks for your help!

Hi. I’m having what sounds like a similiar problem.
The folks at Thesis suggested I set up the high level directory for uploading post images (to allow for thumbnail generation). I did this and set it’s attributes to 755, and FTP’d an image in there. I then:

    * Went to a blog post page
    * Clicked the “Add an Image” icon
    * Clicked the “From URL” tab
    * Entered the URL fetchthemoonmarketing.com/blogpics/3socialwords.jpg (with https://www. in front) into the field “Image URL”
    * Clicked the “Insert into Post” button at the bottom of the dialog box

Unfortunately, what happened next was that the little red asterisk to the left of that field turned into a spinning circle (the one that indicates the site is processing something), finally resolving into a big. red X.

    What did I do wrong?

Also, if I upload an image (for a page, not a post) direct from the Add an Image icon off my local drive, the image box shows up on the page, but the image is broken and doesn’t display. If I click the “edit image” button, I can SEE the image there. If I look in my directory via FTP, I can see the file there. I can also pick up the link URL which WP set up by default (for ex: fetchthemoonmarketing.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/underconst1.jpg (with https://www. in front). BUT, if I try to then upload the image via URL instead of browsing off my local drive, I get the same bid, red X result as above. WP won’t accept the Link URL.

    Can you help?

PS – the only plug-ins I have active are Akismet (which isn’t running because I haven’t purchased a key) and BackupBuddy.
