Broken Images in Emails from WP Posts

In a recent blog post, I linked to the following image URL, which appears fine in the post, but is a broken image when emailed through Subscribe2:

https://article.images.consumerreports.org/prod/content/dam/CRO%20Images%202018/Health/November/CR-Health-InlineHero-Healing-Foods-for-Common-Ailments-11-18-v2

Upon checking the actual html via message source, I see that the protocol is missing an http: prefix (as seen here):

This does not always seem to happen, but is occasionally. Is this a known issue?
