• Help!

I had to replace an image in my last post. The image now does not appear (broken link) and when I am logged in as administrator I do not get the option to edit from the ‘visit site’ page.

I installed W3 total cache, would that be it?

    The site is https://jane-pickard.co.uk/

Sorry for (probably) basic questions but am new to all this.

    Grateful for any help,
    Jane

  • That could be it. You can either empty the cache or disable to plugin for now to see if your issue is fixed. I checked your link and I see no broken images so maybe it is fixed?

I’ve done both and the problem is still there. What puzzles me as well as the broken link is that I can no longer get to the dashboard on the home page. Eeeeeek!

You might want to look at the name of the image. I’ve had issues with this in the past where uploaded images did not display correctly. Try this, rename the image on your local environment (computer) and then upload it.

Thanks. I deleted the old image from the media library, trashed the post it was in, renamed the image and then created and published a whole new post with a different title. This new post now shows in ‘all posts’ but on the home page the old (trashed) post with broken image is still there!!! This is driving me nuts…….

I don’t see a broken image on your home page – which one is broken for you? Looks like you still have caching on though…did you clear everything from that?

Hello. The broken image is in the top post (entitled ‘light room’) – the broken image shows just the alt text and when you click on that – broken image text. How can you tell that caching is still on? Thought I had cleared it, which is the best way to do that?

I thought I recall that you can clear the cache within W3 total cache settings. If not, disable it and then clear the cache through your browser settings.

When I use chrome dev tools, the path to the image shows up but there is nothing there.

The first image on the page is called sunroom.

    Bottom of page shows this:

<!-- Performance optimized by W3 Total Cache. Learn more: https://www.w3-edge.com/wordpress-plugins/

    Page Caching using disk: enhanced

     Served from: jane-pickard.co.uk @ 2013-03-20 16:14:30 by W3 Total Cache -->

I think clearing that cache plugin is more complicated than some others – you’d need to ask or look on the plugin documentation/sub-forum.

Have you tried turning off ALL plugins? Whatever copyright protection script you have may be causing problems as well – not to mention that it’s useless – anyone can easily download any image on your site in two seconds…

This seems to be fixed now. Deleted image from library, deleted post, uploaded a new version of the image and re-published the post plus managed to clear the cache.

I need to find something simpler than W3 Total cache I think!

If the copyright protection script is so useless I wonder why someone has written a plugin for it?
