• Hello! forgive me if im posting in wrong place, i just clicked here from top left of my site so it better be the right place.

My blog has been broken for quite awhile, since I haven’t cared out it much ive ignored it. I disabled jetpack because i thought the options for how to ‘load older posts’ was what was causing this problem…but it isn’t. Also the font that keeps flashing in random spots when i hover over my blog featured images is really annoying

    any ideas?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there retronoodles,

I think you may have answered your own question when you said, “I haven’t cared out it much ive ignored it.” I suspect if you update all the software, these issues may (emphasis on may) go away. It’s a great starting point.

Specifically, make sure your WordPress Theme is on the LATEST version.

Also make sure your version of WordPress is on the latest version of the software.

Lastly, ensure that all your plugins (and framework if any exists) is on the latest version. That alone may fix what is wonky, because when a software is left unattended, things start to break down and behave random in an annoying way.

Start there and then let us know. Oh! And you may want to consider using what’s called a “Managed WordPress Host.” Like SiteGround, Kinsta, or WP Engine. They have 24-hour support that can help you with updating your Core software and answer general technical issues related to hosting and sometimes WordPress.

P.S. Inside the Chrome browser, all of your older blog posts load on demand as I scroll down the page (i.e., infinite scroll).

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,
    JD

When i said i’ve ignored the blog its because wordpress is such a mess i havent been able to get it to look good, not that i don’t post.
I forgot to mention I am usuing godaddy managed wordpress so i have no idea how to ‘update things’ unless it gives me a warning and tells me to .

Im not getting it to load older posts properly, it loads them as full text not as just a featured image and looks very weird and should be consistent (only clickable featured images or only text)

verytime i change the default jetpat options to ‘load more posts with default theme behaviour’ clicking on the button results in a ‘Oops! That page can’t be found.’

My themes arent telling me to update, godaddy says im up to date. I deactivated plugins that said they might not work with my version of wordpress and im still getting this.

Try this inside WordPress: Go to SETTINGS, then READING, and see if Full text is selected. If it is, change it to Summary. Screenshot below.

As for updates, now that I know you use GoDaddy, contact their 24-hour line and ask for help setting up their ManageWP tool to keep your software updated. Even if you blog regularly, you must still keep all your WordPress software updated or your site will eventually break, just like your phone or computer requires software updates.

Thanks, but the ‘summary’ option didnt fix it, my blog (and site) is still very much broken. I think it has trouble loading everything on my site since its image heavy…

I just want the blog to be all big text posts, only like 3 at a time, so When you scroll down/click a button it loads more without completely breaking, so far its just breaking…. and ive disabled every weird plugin i don’t need.
