Every calendar is blank. Instead of 12 calendars, there are now 77 calendars, each with a different shortcode.
This is for a community center with lots of different kinds of activities and each kind of activity has it own sub-calendar, and each kind of activity’s section has it’s own widgets – including the calendar widget appropriate to that set of activities.

I believed when you said the site wouldn’t break when I updated. My bad for gullibility. But now I have to get this working.

It didn’t handle the widgets properly – all the widgets have the old code, but NONE are displaying calendars.

Just tried creating a text widget and adding the short code to that but that didn’t show up either.

I’m going to have to roll back to a previous backup to restore functionality.

I’ve rolled back and updated WP, the theme and the other plugins, but I would really like to be able to update this plugin. I can see that your rewrite makes sense in the long run but I can’t update the GCE plugin if the widgets don’t work. You can view the way it’s supposed to look at https://www.theoldgallery.org.

I’m not sure how the upgrade process created more calendars.

Are you able to give us access to a staging or test site login to so we can take a deeper look?

I’m back. The Google Calendar upgrade has now forced me to upgrade.

This time it created 88 different feeds.

I think it may have to do with the complex nature of the widget calendars. There are categories and sub-categories, so there is “Things to do” and “Discussion Groups” under the “Things to do”. “Discussion groups” has its own feed, and the calendar on the Discussion groups page is that feed, but it also appears in the “Things to Do” calendar and in the Main overall calendar on the front page. So that might account for 3 feeds, but the upgrade caused “Discussion groups” to create 8 Discussion Group feeds. WTF?

This site is live, but I can give you a temp login to see if you see some sense in it or can reassure me that deleting all the feeds except the one in use is not going to wreak a new sort of havoc. I would presume that I should use the same feed for all instances of when that calendar should appear.

    Let me know.

The problem just got slightly better and a lot worse.

I’m going through and adding the ids to each calendar. The calendar’s are showing up – empty. The google calendars are displaying the appropriate events through Google but the events are not displayed on the site page.

    Here’s the page: https://www.theoldgallery.org/things-to-do/classes/fitnesswellness-classes/

    Here’s the google calendar: https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=theoldgallery.org_7qcvl3ncol4ee5qb3uof2qmaqo%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/Denver

Public sharing is turned on. The google id is copied and pasted.

I’ve been struggling with this for most of the day – I’m feeling pretty discouraged.

I got it to work by setting Minimum Feed Start Date and Maximum Feed End Date to a number other than zero.

Perhaps you might want to default that to one month each.

What do you think? Can I throw away the other 77 feeds that GCE generated?

There is a default set for this that is not 0 so I am not sure why it didn’t default for you, sorry about that.

This seems like a very specific scenario, so maybe it has something to do with the upgrade code, but I am not sure why it happens for you at this time. I would say it is safe to delete any duplicates, but make sure you keep the ones that you already have set up using the feed IDs for.

Okay, I deleted the 77 extraneous feeds. Nothing changed and in this case, no change is good news.

However, my troubles are not over yet – six (thus far) of my calendars are not displaying in the widget, although when I “View feed”, I can see the appropriate calendars, some even with events. But in the widgets it’s just blank, no error message (GOOD news). Some of these are ones where I’ve gone through and corrected the feeds and/or set the period of time to something other than 0. Some I corrected today and some of them I corrected 2 days ago and nothing has changed yet.

    Any further ideas?

I deleted the GCE widgets and re-added them and now the calendar grid shows up, but I added an event to one of them in Google Calendar and it’s not showing on the website…

    Sigh.

In the past it’s taken a variable amount of time for the feed to “catch” and sometimes after I’ve torn most of my hair out, I come back and the events are finally showing. I’m hoping that is the case again.

I’ll let you know one way or the other.
