• Links are messed up when saving or publishing a post. It looks like a mysql problem. So i went for support to brinkster, my host. I had a chat with support minutes ago and this is what I got:

    Tim: You will need to upgrade WordPress. We just patched a security hole within MySQL yesterday and WordPress seems to not like the fix.
    Tim: Please view the following link:
    Tim: https://software.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=06/06/01/213223&from=rss

    Hey, I do need help, lots of it. I have two blog applications running and now posts or comments with links (posted or modified after last midnight) won’t work. It seems that links are spoiled when saving or publishing only.

    Any one with the same problem? I saw the link given by Tim but I don’t know what to do with it.

    Thx,

    Juan

  • BinaryOne – I agree with you entirely that Brinkster’s behaviour is unacceptable – I phoned them and spoke to the management for about 30 mins but they just won’t do the correct fix and wouldn’t admit they should have told people.

    I also was extremely angry at being told that my database would be unusable for 2 weeks as I have three accounts with them all for commercial use.

    My fix is indeed only temporary until Brinkster get their act together and upgrade, but it is an absolute necessity for me as otherwise my sites would be utterly unusable for 2 weeks :/

    (P.s. when they upgrade there is going to be an ENORMOUS backlash by those using the ByteFX driver which doesn’t support the new auth system!)

    I got a new mail from brinkster which isn’t to encouraging. doesn’t sound like they are in any rush to
    get it done.
    “Hello,

    I spoke to an admnistrator so that I could provide you with an exact date that the updates would be done to the server. The moment they are not fully sure of when because it is dependent on the IT networkers. In other words it might take longer then a week to update the servers. Once the servers are updated you will be notified by email. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

    If you have any further questions, please let us know.”

    I was told last week, that we were looking at 2 weeks. But no exact date was given.
    I’m working on switching mine back to Mysql4, and reinstalling everything. With any luck I’ll be able to get our site back online soon – I hope! This has been a horrible experience.

    I joined a2hosting.com and moved one blog application. The main site is still running at brinkster (don’t use mysql) and linking to a2hosting for the blog part.
    Planning to move a second blog application today.
    I have the discount offer at a2hosting, the least expensive with a 5.x mysql server. It is running fine.

    I am very angry to brinkster. I have sent an offensive mail to them look what they returned today:
    “Hello,
    I’m sorry but we are unable to provide an exact date, as this may raise expectations that may not be met.

    We are preparing to update all the servers within the next 1-2 weeks.

    If you have any further questions, please let us know.”

    It has been already a month! for gods sake!!

    i asked live support and someone told me “within the next few weeks” is when the servers would be upgraded. great timing for me, a huntington beach blog useless for fourth of july.
    i might be time to find a more caring host, maybe even with a c panel. good luck to everyone having the same problem with brinkster…

    FIXITY FIX FIX FIXED IT ??

    First, I’ve spent a couple of weeks trying to get TextPattern to work. I’ve now got it fixed and you can see the forum at the textpattern forum.

    I’m not running WordPress myself yet on my site, but I have it running locally. Soooo, I haven’t properly tested this fix – so let me/us know if it works!

    Anyway, here goes…

    1. Open wp-db.php (in a text editor (notepad) or something) (see * below)
    2. Find line 57 that reads $this->select($dbname);
    3. Add a blank line after it
    4. Copy and paste the following command to it…

      $this->query("set sql_mode = replace(@@local.sql_mode, 'NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES,', '')");
    5. Save the file
    6. Upload it to your site on Brinkster.
    7. Hopefully… Voila!

    * wp-db.php should be found at <webroot>/your-wp-folder/wp-includes/

    Other than it continuing to run one extra db query each page load, you do not need to remove this fix when Brinkster do get around to upgrading their server.

    Hope it works for y’all.

    Dave H.

    PS> Brinkster just told me it’ll be another 2 weeks until they upgrade. Hmm, where have I heard that before?!?

    thank you soooooo much
    that fix did the trick
    and i can confidently say, w woulda never figured that out on my own
    thanks

    Daveh you are so The Man it’s not even funny. We’re going to devote a national website holiday to your ass.

    THANK YOU!!!!

    P.S. But I still HATE Brinkster for their attitude about this, their total disregard for our situation, and general approach to their own patch-happy mistakes.

    There’s a fine balance between customer service and security, and they pretty much just went way overboard on handling this one.

    Daveh!! THANK YOU VERY MUCHH!! ??
