Breaks Responsiveness of Theme

  • Great concept, but for those of us who believe sites should be responsive, it may not be useful.

    The page on which I tried the TOC lost its ability to respond to the width of the device displaying it.

    Perhaps this is a problem with only the theme I’m using (Gridly), because the shortcode didn’t work at all. I had originally set the required headings to 10 and inserted the shortcode. When I didn’t get a TOC, I reduced the requirement to 4 and removed the shortcode. That gave me a TOC… and an unresponsive page.

  • Hi – most themes I develop are based on Twitter Bootstrap which is fully responsive and where I have this plugin enabled, I don’t have a problem getting it to scale/resize appropriately and without any CSS tweaks. See https://arpc.gov.au/qanda/ as an example.

    I’ve used other responsive themes (Twenty*, Esplanade) and they were ok.

    I just had a quick look at Gridly and it only applies the mobile theme if your width is less than or equal to 480px. If this is not to your satisfaction, you’ll need to follow it up with the theme author.

    Also, the indexes appear OK for me if I use auto insertion or the [toc] shortcode with this theme.

    Thanks for your input, Michael. Unfortunately, I sold this client on the free Gridly, and I don’t want to go through trying to find another theme that satisfies.

    Gridly doesn’t seem to use media queries for responsiveness, and this leads to some other problems.

    I think I’ll be able to use the free iTheme2 in place of Gridly from now on when I want a grid-type home page.
