Break in the Blog Title (1and1)

I am using WordPress through 1and1 hosting and it’s great. Question though. For the tagline of the blog the setup says enter a few words

I did this tag line appears on two line, which is OK, but I’d rather have the first part on one line then a line break then the rest of the tag line.

I tried putting a <br> but all that happens is the <br> physically appears not the an actual break. I thought I’d just use spaces thinking the spaces (from the spacebar) would push the second part of the tagline onto the next line but that doesn’t help any. The spaces don’t appear. I could use — or … to push the words but that isn’t really what I want.

Any ideas?
