• Hello There

I’m using WordPress 2.7 and I have alot of comments on my page and I’m using the built in function WordPress function to split them up into different pages.

The function is marked and saved “Break comments into pages with (5) comments per page and the (last) page displayed by default
Comments should be displayed with the (older) comments at the top of each page”

But the page is not breaking them into pages, nor is it doing anything else.

Does anybody know what’s up with it?

  • I am having the same issue. The comment paging thing doesn’t work on any theme I’ve tried including the default theme. The option to display newer comments first isn’t working either.

This is a fantastic feature, by the way, that eliminates a complicated plugin. Just need it to work for those busy posts with several hundred comments.

I’m using 2.7.1 and the default theme does have code to do the comment paging. Older themes will not work with this feature because the new code has to be included.

On a side note, if you use the “Comments should be displayed with *newer* comments at the top of each page” turned on, it doesn’t work properly. If you set it for 5 comments and you have 6 comments, the first page will show just 1 comment (the newest), then the second page will show 5 comments (the oldest 5). I consider this a bug, although some people might consider this a “feature.”

I’m using a modified default theme from a few versions back, but I really need this new comment pagination feature to work now I’ve updated to v2.7.1 – could anyone post the code I need to paste into my theme please?

thanks for that buddha! After reading that (phew!) I decided to just upload the latest comments.php in its entirety, and that worked a treat.

Comment settings for my blog read:
Break comments into pages with 10 comments per page and the first page displayed by default.
Comments should be displayed with the older comments at the top of each page

But the comments still do not break into pages.
