• I’m using Breadcrumb NavXT for my Custom Post Type and running in to an issue displaying the categories. How can I control which categories are used in the breadcrumbs. I was under the impression that the category with the lower ID would be used; however, I deleted a category and recreated it so it would have a higher ID and it is still being used in the breadcrumbs. What I’ve found is that it is choosing the categories based on alphabetical order.

Has anyone else noticed this or been able to override this? I’m really surprised there isn’t a setting to decide how it chooses categories to use. Thanks in advance!

I ended up installing an add-on plugin Order Bender. It allows you to specify a preferred category hierarchy instead of letting it default to alphabetical hierarchy.

I then had a friend modify it to allow taxonomies in the drop down instead of regular post categories. Here’s my file at pastebin.

And now I realize that plugin isn’t working either. We got the taxonomies we required into the Preferred Category dropdown but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Still looking for a way for the breadcrumbs to use the CPT category based on lowest ID instead of alphabetical order. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in need of a solution to this, too. Did you find a solution?

No, we didn’t. From what I read, whatever taxonomy is designated first gets priority. There may be a plugin out there which overrides this but I ran out of time to solve it and in the end, it wasn’t a huge deal for this particular project. I’d definitely be interested in a solution; however, I don’t think this falls under the scope of whatever breadcrumb plugin you’re using.
