Hello. I cannot for the life of me get categories to display in the breadcrumbs.

Permalinks are set to Custom > /%category%/%postname%/

And in Yoast > Settings > Advanced > Breadcrumbs > Breadcrumbs for post types > Post is set to Category.

And for bbPress Forums, which I have behind a user reg form, the breadcrumbs on the forum index display as:
You Are Here:?Homepage???Forums (which disregards the parent page MMCA Members after Homepage).

Then when I click on a forum, I get: You Are Here:?Homepage???Forums???News & Community (again, no parent page after Homepage)

Then, when I click on a topic, it changes to
You Are Here:?Homepage???Topics???News & Community???Test (no parent page and no Forums page?)

I would like for the whole path to display : You Are Here: Homepage ? MMCA Members ? Forums and then have that all still display based on the forum they choose + topics/replies.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @blackandbluebird,

Thanks for providing more detail here about your bbPress forum breadcrumbs. Here’s a summary of what I understand your expectations are:

    • Forum index – Homepage???MMCA ? Forums
    • Forum pages – Homepage???MMCA ? Forums???News & Community
    • Topic pages – Homepage???MMCA ? Forums???News & Community ? Topic

Is that correct? The Yoast SEO breadcrumbs are generated based on your site structure. As such, you cannot outrightly include a WordPress page in the path. The supposed parent page, MMCA Members, is not part of the forum structure.

However, you can explore the?wpseo_breadcrumb_links?filter to customize the breadcrumb trail as described here?https://yoast.com/help/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/#pathway

Thank you for the fast reply @maybellyne! Yes that is what I want to happen. I understand now why it isn’t working. I looked at the link but I will be honest, I have very little experience with editing the functions file and filters. Do you have a link by chance of the exact code I would need?

Typically code snippets are added to your theme’s functions.php file. If you’re unfamiliar with using code snippets, we’d like to refer you to the WordPress documentation on how to use a filter.

An example code snippet can be found here.
