There is a push from the higher ups in my company for us to stop using WordPress and start using a new product from a company called Brandcast.

They think that the flexibility its editor gives is somehow better than using well made WordPress themes. It looks like Photoshop for Web. I like having good designers design sites.

I’m also sure WordPress developers could make an editor like that if they wanted to. Maybe there’s one already out there. If there is, I’d like to have some recommendations that I can take back so I can say that we mainly lose by using something this immature.

Here’s a TechCrunch article about Brandcast:

I really think that they are a threat to WordPress in big companies and we should have clear answers for how we can work better with WordPress.

  • Terrible idea!

Sure, the editor may be a little mor advanced, but a lot of visual page builders will give you the same, if not more, freedom. Then again, a good custom designed and developed theme will give you even more.

The problem is that once you’re on their system, you’re locked to their system. You can’t move your site somewhere else if they start jacking up the price, you can’t make any changes that their system isn’t built to make, and you can’t get a full copy of your own content to download.

On top of that is this, which is what I think is the worst part of their “Terms and Conditions” – Check out the ‘License Grants’ section… Basically it says that whatever you send to them in any way whatsoever can be used by them for whatever purpose they see fit without your permission or any sort of compenstation at all. I don’t know about you, but if I suggested something like that to my boss I’d be fired.
