• I am having repeated problems with uploading a new header image (to replace the default one) in TwentyEleven. I am using the resize header in TwentyEleven plugin to make my header much smaller. I create an image which is exactly the right size in terms of pixels (437 x 40) and upload it. The image is fine when I view it in Corel Draw/Photoshop, or simply as a jpeg/tiff etc. However, once I have uploaded it it becomes blurred as you can see here: https://www.rasalabooks.com.
    I have tried adding this code to my style sheet css:

    #branding img {
    width: auto;
    }

    Someone advised me to do this to solve the problem. However, when I put this code into the style sheet, the header is cut in half and a lot of white space appears where the right hand side of the header was.
    I have joined multiple forum discussions about this issue but have not been able to resolve it. Can anyone help me?

    I also can’t seem to find a WordPress helpdesk – is there some way we can contact WordPress in situations such as these where we are not able to get an answer from the forums or our own efforts?

    Thanks
    Venetia

  • I think the image is being blurred because it’s being rescaled. As you say, the actual image is 437px × 40px,(/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/cropped-web-banner6.jpg) and it looks fine, but it’s still being re-scaled to 1,000px × 92px for display. I think that’s why it’s distorted. Perhaps leaving the original image in the resolution it will be displayed at, and not resizing it, will improve it’s appearance dramatically.

    Thanks very much for your help. I think as you say the image is being distorted when displayed but I don’t know why and can’t seem to change it. I tried making an image that size (1000 x 92 pixels) but that didn’t work either. In the end I removed the ‘resize header’ plugin and just created a header to match the original header size for TwentyEleven theme. That has worked and the image is now clear, although much bigger than I want it to be but as a temporary solution it is ok (www.rasalabooks.com).
    If anyone knows how to shrink the header AND retain image clarity (ie: not end up with the bug which makes your image display at 1000 x 92 pixels) please let me know…
