Bluehost staging does not work
-
After staging a setup of Woocommerce, on a website, I deployed the new version of the website. It worked to show basic structure, but menus and breadcrumbs did not migrate. The menus and breadcrumbs were linked to the staging site.
I called Bluehost who went through and fixed it after many tries.
Found out the next day that the backend wp-admin dashboard had a staging site active and not a production site. The name of the staging site was the same as the production site with the addition of an “/” at the end.
I called Bluehost again. The agent advised to deploy. We deployed the staging site, and the Bluehost plugin froze and the website was no longer accessible. We tried many ways to reactivate with no avail.
Finally, to fix the website, I offered help with a backup. I was able to help Bluehost by restoring the website.
After this call, I have found many staging files through the cpanel file manager. I am in the process of manually deleting those.
I would have been better off manually setting up and manually migrating all files of the staging site. Bluehost staging may initially look a little like it works, however the Bluehost staging does not work for all practical purposes.
