  • No-one suggested deleting your site’s wp-config.php file. You were only advised to delete copies of files where you were uploading new copies. Ask your hosts if they have a copy of your wp-config.php file and your site’s .htaccess file.

    But you said:

Now – without changing anything – try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder

And you told me to make sure to delete the old copies of files and folders so I deleted everything except wp-content….

    Full text (see above):

Now – without changing anything – try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Yes but I didn’t know there was more files there than there is in the wodpress folder.

From what you said I only figured I need to keep the wp-content folder.

How do I fix this now?

Ask your host to restore your old site and try again – carefully this time.

restore my old site? They dont make backups for my site…. there is no backup

    Have you actually asked them?

I know this for a fact, the site is to big so it gets automatically skipped with backups….

This part where you said “make sure to delete” confused me, I could have just overwritten everything..

    So I’m screwed now?

Your only other option is to try and re-create your wp-config.php file from a copy of wp-config-sample.php. And incidentally, the core file size of a large site is virtually the same as the core file size on a tiny site. Perhaps you were talking about database backups?

I’m on chat with them…. waiting for the reply..

Can they at least provide you with the mysql database detals? Do not post those here BTW.

If you have that information then you can re-create your wp-config.php file or at least the database portion of it. That would get you out of the deep end of the pool at least.

What will I tell them to do exactly please?

First ask them if they can restore the files for your WordPress site -specifically the root wp-config.php file.

Unfortunately, the most recent backup we have for you is from Saturday, June 15th.

Are they referring to file backups or database backups?
