On the Links page, edit any link. At the bottom of the page, there’s a Target option. Select _blank for a new window.

This will render your page invalid to a XHTML validator, however, but if you don’t care about that, so be it. All browsers will still render it okay.

thanks you for posting. What does that mean when you say, “This will render your page invalid to a XHTML validator”

It means that if you run your page through an XHTML Validator, it will complain about the target attributes.

oddly enough it didn’t work. Directly under those options it says, “(Note that the target attribute is illegal in XHTML 1.1 and 1.0 Strict.)”

Is it possible that it gives me the option but won’t allow me to really do it because there is something illegal about it?

    Thank you again,
    John

I ran my page through the W3C validator and it was fine XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

I think that you just need to make sure the following setting is Not checked in Options/Writing

WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
