Blog within a wordpress site

Hi all,

I’m setting up a WordPress powered site which will have a number of pages and posts administered by staff members.

We’re trying to add a part to the site where members of the public can submit articles for review through WordPress which we can then manually approve and add to the section of the website.

We are worried that by allowing the members of public to be contributors on the site they will see a lot more than we want them to, is there a way we can almost set up a wordpress site within a site or somehow separate this group of public users from seeing any other posts and pages on the site? (we have an events calendar that sometimes contains events with future publish dates that we don’t want the public to know about).
