Blog – Update/Information section

Hello, My name is Sam and I’m very new to all of this.. Word Press and building a internet site.
My question is, Id like to find a plug-in that I can run in a side bar widget that runs a blog/information section. Id like it to show maybe 4-5 posts, around 200 caracters and time/date its posted.
Any help will be very much appriciated.
