    Hi everyone!

Since about a week or a little more the widget showing the blog statistics, and the top posts and pages widget are not working anymore. Blog stats widget (in German: Statistik) still shows 28,446 visitors, and top posts and pages (in German: Meistbesucht) still shows the same articles even they are changing from day to day.

    Any help appreciated.

    Ronald

I don’t see anything wrong between Jetpack and your site.

Are you using any sort of caching plugin, or do you see a “Clear/Purge Cache” button in your Dashboard or admin bar? If so, would you please try clearing the cache?

Note: You do not need to install a caching plugin at this point just to clear a cache you don’t have. If you don’t have a caching plugin or a way to clear a server-level cache, just say so. ??

    Hi James,

    thank you for your answer.

No, I am not using any sort of caching plugin. By the way, while running another website (https://ronaldfilkas.de/) I am using the same plugins but without any problems with the stats, and the top posts widgets.

Both sites are communicating with Jetpack properly, their stats are up to date, and Jetpack and WordPress are up to date.

The only difference is that https://ronaldfilkas.de/ is apparently running PHP 7.3.8, while https://blog.ronaldfilkas.de/ is apparently running PHP 7.0.33.

Is there any change if you update PHP on the site with the problem?

https://blog.ronaldfilkas.de/ is a managed WordPress site by my web space provider, so I am not able to change the PHP version. But the issues with the widgets exist since about almost two weeks now, while the PHP version runs much longer. This couldn’t cause the issues. Both widgets are still showing the same data.

Most managed WordPress hosts do provide some sort of built-in caching.

    Who is the hosting provider?

    (@setzfehler)

1&1 Ionos. The same for my other site which is managed by myself.

I’m not sure yet. 1&1 Ionos says that the CDN package is already installed but I can’t find any settings in my 1&1 Ionos control center. Anyway, the mentioned widgets work very nicely for https://ronaldfilkas.de/ but not for https://blog.ronaldfilkas.de/ by the same hosting provider, and they worked very well until about two weeks ago, CDN or not. In the meantime, there hasn’t been theme updates, WordPress updates, or others that could have caused the problem, no WordPress settings changed, even a little change in .htaccess concerning rewrite cond and rewrite rule withdrawn. I am thinking about disabling and deleting those two widgets because the way they (don’t) work is simply useless.

Blog stats, and top posts and pages widgets also stopped working for https://ronaldfilkas.de/! I assume that the issue has to do with the latest Jetpack update.

Could you go to https://wordpress.com/activity-log/ and verify whether any other plugins were recently updated? Look for anything with “cache” or “optimize” or similar language, as those are most likely to keep your data from refreshing.

Your version of Jetpack has been out for a while, and it would’t make sense for it to just now stop working.

Well, the latest Jetpack release dated August 6th! The same day Yoast SEO was updated. Any other plugin updates are older than one month, thus from July, some are even older. The problems started in August. Both sites are only using one optimizing plugin: Optimize Database after Deleting Revisions. Besides one update today, the former update was July 15th.

WordPress activity log only displays the latest 20 events because I’m only using a free account, so I was checking all my plugins manually. blog.ronaldfilkas.de has 16 active plugins, most of them theme related, ronaldfilkas.de only 8!

Thanks, the problem just started on ronaldfilkas.de, correct, even though Jetpack updated more than a week ago. Could you check updated most recently?

No, I just found out the the problem also affects ronaldfilkas.de but it is possible that it started about the same time as at blog.ronaldfilkas.de! I was merely monitoring the latter. What updated most recently? Jetpack and Yoast SEO on August 6, as I wrote above! All other updates are older.

Okay, three days ago you said it was working:

By the way, while running another website (https://ronaldfilkas.de/) I am using the same plugins but without any problems with the stats, and the top posts widgets.

When you posted to say it had stopped working, I did notice a plugin update then as well. Could you get in touch directly with our support team here so that we’ll be able to dig into the site settings a bit further to see what’s up?

Well, I said that I was having merely an eye upon blog.ronaldfilkas.de. Most read posts don’t change too often at ronaldfilkas.de, thus it is very possible that I just seemed to overlook the issue there.

But I just contacted Jetpack support.
