I just reinstalled a WordPress blog and all works perfectly fine except the search. Whenever anybody searches, it waits a few seconds and then asks you to download index.php!

If you do download index.php, the file is blank.

    What am I doing wrong?

Do you have access to your apache error logs?

I’ve had similar things happen to me when PHP ran out of memory, for what that’s worth. A peek at the error log helped me figure it out.

Ok, I was just about to post…. I found the problem and solved it, though I’m not happy with the solution.

On my search page, I used the “Weighted Words” plugin. My blog has over 4500 posts and each post has between 200-600 words. I have other blogs with fewer posts and they work fine, so I disabled this plugin and now search works fine on this blog. So, it is solved…

However, I would still like to figure out how to use Weighted Words…. it seems to start causing problems when blogs get big. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don’t want to mark this “resolved” until I figure how to use the plugin without having this problem…

Don’t know if wp-cache plugin might help with this?

Maybe… since I just reinstalled the blog maybe the wp-cache needs to work for a while. seems also like the problem might be in how the plugin grabs the weighted words.

I will have it disabled for a few days and then try implementing it again and see the results. I’ll mark ‘resolved’ in a few days after further tests.

Also, you could maybe try one of the other similar plugins? I think UTW has a way of setting it up to do this….

Nope, still seems broken. In fact, another blog I have that has run for a long time without a problem, finally broke today on the search. Once I disabled the Weighted Words plugin, it worked fine…. arghh! This blog has now about 2800 posts, so it is quite large.

Ok, so i will investigate other “tag cloud” plugins and see if they work better.
