    Dear Jetpack team,

I have had many general users report getting timeouts when they are in the process of leaving a long comment to one of my blog entries. They are not registered users or anything like that. THey just are going to my blog, reading an article and then clicking the leave comment, and then putting thought to the response. By the time they click submit for their well-thought comments, they get a timeout issue and either have to start over again, which most don’t, or they just leave my blog. I have not found any jetpack setting to change this? Is this a limitation of jetpack, WordPress, or is their a setting I’m not aware of? Or is there a plug in to change this. I did see a plug in called Easy Time Out which I’m not sure if that will rectify this. I do not know what the default is once a person clicks “leave comment” before it goes to a timeout. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

So essentially once someone clicks the comments box to type in something, it begins a countdown timer where it will time out if they don’t enter their comments fast enough? If that’s the case, what is that amount of time exactly? Is it hard coded and can’t it be changed then?

    That’s correct.

As you’ve realized, that timeout is around 15 minutes. However, it can’t be changed, since it’s set on WordPress.com servers.

Ok. Well I guess it boils down to acceptance then. ?? I’m guessing WordPress expects someone to complete their comments in less than 15 minutes. I wonder if that saves on server time for them but either way, it makes no sense to me why they’d put a limitation on it because clicking in a field that you are not logged into seems like it shouldn’t time out. Regardless, thanks for letting me know and for your guidance in this. ??

That’s a technical limitation, since the comment form is added to your site via an iFrame. You could deactivate Jetpack’s Comments module, you’ll switch back to the default comment form, without any iFrame, and the limitations are only going to be from your server’s end.
