blog page 'show at most' NOT working – AVH Extended Categories!

Hi
I’ve been burdened with a site that is using:
AVH Extended Categories
which is forgivable, BUT it prevents the blog page from displaying a limited amount of posts (e.g. 10 or under as set in the ‘Reading Settings’.
SO,
is there a way to correct this either
1. by finding an alternative to AVH
2. hack the blog to override, what I assume is, an override within AVH.

Feel free to enlighten me.
