I want to only put a preview of each blog post instead of showing everything..

I think that one way to go at it is to create a child theme, lookup what php-file handles your blog post overview, and look inside “The Loop” (this is very much a WordPress term to get accustomed to) for a function called the_content().

You can then replace that with the_excerpt.
