• I’m looking for some opinions on something related to sites with a static home page. Is there a downside to not having a blank page for the blog posts? My sidebar has Recent Posts, Categories and Archives.

When I set up the static home page about a month ago, I followed the standard recommendation of creating a blank page for the blog posts to be displayed on. But that has led to something I don’t like.

Recent posts are appearing in Google with page 1 ranking but the Google listing is linked to the blog page, not the individual post page for the search phrase, which I would prefer.

In some cases, the individual post ranked great first then disappeared to be followed a day later by a listing for the same key phrase but linking to the blog page, not the individual page. By that time, the individual post related to that phrase was no longer at the top of the blog page so a visitor clicking on the SERP wasn’t taken to the most relevant post.

Maybe this is a result of key phrases that are very similar. I’m tempted to try just removing the blank page for the blog posts. In case that turns out to upset Google, I thought it might be a good ideas to post here first and ask, anyone have any experience in this situation or an opinion of the pros/cons of going without that blank page for the blog posts.
