Blog page not loading correct template

I have a static page set up here and the blog is here (via options/reading) The news page uses a different page template than the front page, which should be loading a separate sidebar.
It only loads the template when the post is selected, rather than on the news page. What’s causing that to happen?

(I just noticed the individual post loads as archive… perhaps a clue?)
