    Hi guys,

I have a site https://essayshelpcenter.com/ whose blog page shows same content as home page.

I want the home page to remain as the front/sticky page and show its content as it already is and the blog page to display only posts (hundreds already published by the way).

Been wrapping my head around this for a whole day to no avail. Many of the solutions suggested online don’t seem to work. Please assist.

Here’s the link to the blog page https://essayshelpcenter.com/blog/

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hi, dustymayrem, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

First, thank you so much for providing a site link–it helps greatly in diagnosing problems like yours.

Please log into your dashboard & go into ‘Settings > Reading’.

Make certain your homepage is set “a static page” that you’ve created, i.e., Home. Now, make sure your blog page is also set to a static page that you’ve created, i.e., Blog. The blog page should not contain any content except the title. To blog, you just go into the ‘Add New Post’ tab.

    Hi Jackie,

Thanks for your prompt response. I have already set the home and blog pages as static.

I have already published several posts. The only problem is the posts don’t show on the blog page but instead the home page content appears on the blog page.

So what do I need to change?

Please disable your plugins, including your live chat script, & please use a default theme such as twentysixteen. There are definitively some weird redirects occurring here, & I’m not sure which plugins/theme scripts are causing that, but let’s revert back to a basic install & try troubleshooting from there.

Okay. I have disabled all plugins and now I can see the following error when loading the blog page “Fatal error: Call to undefined function layerslider() in /home/essalvpz/public_html/wp-content/themes/essaywritingteam/index.php on line 4”

If I switch to another theme, won’t I lose some important settings/info?

How are things from your end?

I really appreciate your help Jackie McBride.

I just installed twentysixteen and under live preview I can see posts displayed on the blog page ?? So was this a theme problem?

    dustymayrem, you queried:
“So was this a theme problem?”

I might not phrase it quite that way. It could be. It could also be that there was a conflict between 1 of your plugins (the layerslider might be the culprit) & your theme, or between 2 plugins, though the former is more my suspicion. Try first deactivating all plugins, reenabling your theme, & log into the site. If the site works as expected, then reactivate your plugins 1 by 1, & visit your site each time to see if any problems arise. Don’t forget to clear your browser’s cache between visits. The plugin you last reactivated before the site went fubar is the culprit. Whether that be because of a conflict w/another theme/plugin or errors within the code itself is hard to say. Clearly if reenabling your theme w/o any plugins causes the site to get messed up, then I think we can be quite certain the theme is at fault.

Glad to have helped. Please be so kind as to mark the topic as ‘resolved’ so other forum volunteers will see you’ve been helped to a successful conclusion & can therefore feel free to go on to help others. Thanks. Have a great rest of your weekend.

    Thanks a bunch Jackie! ??

The error message that appears on the blog page after deactivating the plugins implies the error could be caused by the layerslider plugin.

    /home/essalvpz/public_html/wp-content/themes/essaywritingteam/index.php on line 4″

I just visited the server and checked out the line 4 of the index.php and this is what it looks like:

    <?php layerslider(1) ?>

Could there be an issue with this code that requires fixing or I need to delete the layerslider plugin altogether?

I had actually seen that previously, dustymayrem, which is why I suggested that perhaps the layerslider plugin was the culprit. If it were I, I’d delete it & look for another plugin that can make the site look the way you want but not cause redirects. You might also look to see if the author of the plugin offers support. That information is generally in the readme file supplied w/the plugin. S/he might be able to better assist in determining why that’s occurring, since, as the code author, s/he would have better insight into it than anyone else.

This was actually pretty interesting, & I can certainly see why you’d have trouble finding a workable solution, as a lot of stuff on the net just sort of rehashes the most common stuff. When I was studying to be a doctor, we were always taught, “when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras”, i.e., look for the most common causes of symptoms first. But dad-gum-it–sometimes those hoofbeats really do belong to zebras, as in this case, & all the most common scenarios simply would not have been applicable.

Hugely useful stuff, Jackie McBride. I can’t thank you enough for your priceless input and time, especially during a weekend when I really needed this urgently. Thanks again and have a lovely week ahead!
