I have a site with Voyage theme and use posts for the slider on the “homepage.”

So when I went to create a page dedicated to a blog, it, of course, posts the slides along with any other posts that are there.

Is there a way to limit which posts appear on a blog page or separate them so I can determine which posts are specific to blogging only?

I’ve created categories for the posts (slider, blogg, other, etc) already but don’t know exactly how to keep the slider posts of the blog page.

I’ve been a programmer for decades, creating websites from scratch but am not too familiar with php and am new to working with WordPress.

    thanks in advance!

After uploading and activating your code I lost my background image (which I reloaded) and lost “home” on my menu and can’t figure out how to get it back…

You will have to set your Theme Options and Menu up to match the settings on the parent theme.

Activate the Voyage theme, record all the settings. Then activate the child theme and duplicate the settings there.

    okay…done.

    Now what?

Sorry, I don’t know what is next. If you need further help, you may need to hire someone. You can post a job request at jobs.wordpress.net at no cost for the posting.

    Seriously??

You got me this far and I’ve done all this stuff and still don’t know how to exclude categories from a simple page that I intend to blog to??

I can’t believe that I just went along with everything you told me to do; I thought the wordpress forum was better than this…

You’re kidding, right? Post a job request at the site at wordpress?

I won’t be that gullible again. If the situation were reversed I would have given you help right to the end, and then some…

thanks for what you’ve done so far, in any case…..(I guess I’m a bit naive when it comes to templates—–programming I know, templates in WordPress, not so much…)

If you made the menu and options on the child theme exactly the same as the menu and options on the parent, then I don’t know what else to do.

You are not gullible, you just have a problem that is too big to solve on this forum.

Let’s just go back to the original problem: excluding posts from the blog page.

Is that doable? Isn’t that what you created the code for? Is it supposed to work on its own or am I supposed to do something now?

I can’t believe that this is a problem too big to solve on this forum—the wordpress support forum for gawd’s sake!— and I need to see this through to the end.

If I knew php I could look through the code, debug it, and see what’s what, but I don’t. Do you? You’re the one who wrote it! What exactly is it supposed to do? Maybe if we get that understood, we can figure out just what it isn’t doing…
