    Hello,

This week I launched my new site. I copied all files and folders from my dev site to my root folder and the site is now live. Almost. All pages apart from the /blog page are there.

My site is https://www.trafficact.com.au and almost everything is there. But when you click on the blog in the global nav the directory is empty. However, when you click on an individual blog entry e.g. https://www.trafficact.com.au/blog/social/the-value-of-a-facebook-fan/ it does now.

I am puzzled as to how this has happened, but more importnatly, have no idea how to fix it.

    Can anyone help me?

    Jen

  • This is probably caused by your .htaccess rules. Why do you have a directory called blog? If everything goes well you don’t need it, since everything should be rewritten to be handled by wordpress.

    mm, that got me thinking.

My old website was an html website, with a seperate directory for a wordpress blog. The blog is obviously on the same URL now, but the original directory is indeed empty as the old site is now deleted.
How do I overwrite this error? Should I upload a new .htaccess then?

I deleted the old htaccess of the site, but the issue remains ??

I would say htaccess is not the problem but how you approach your site. Let’s think.

I assume you have WordPress installed under root ( / ) and you have mostly pages and a blog (posts) under /blog.

In the WordPress settings under ‘reading’ you probably set a front page other than the posts page. You can then have a page called ‘blog’ which is used for handling your posts.

If that is all well you should remove the ‘blog’ directly since a existing directory can disrupt the rewriting logic.

    After that all should work

bugger that, my entire site doesn’t actually work…. only the home page works, the rest doesn’t show.

    Hello B Schuiling,

Thanks for much for taking the time to respond. I have just come to the same conclusion and have been trying to remove the old blog directory from the root folder. To no avail ??

I have indeed set a front page and a seperate blog page in the reading panel.

Since working on the site tonoght though, the entire site now doesnt work anymore, only the home page comes up now, the other pages are not found on the server for some reason?

I am reaching my technical ceiling here haha.

mm, playing around with the permalink structire has fixed the 404 errors for all the other pages at least… the blog issue remains, but I am convinced you are right, I need to delete the “old” blog directory of the root folder. However, when I delete it from the cpanel, 2 min later its back again. Why would that be? Dont I have permission to delete it perhaps?

About the last thing I have no clue, that depends on your host. Maybe you can try it using FTP?

Also I can see a wp-config.php in that directory that probably is not supposed to be there.

thanks for your help with this. I am going on the assumption at the mo that this is causing the issue. I cannot delete this folder. Host provider not forth coming in helping me do so either…
