• Hi My service provider failed to notify that my domain registration was due for renewal. Now my domain ionaminton.com has been hijacked along with all my content. How do I get my blog back i am willing to give up the domain name but the content took me months to write and post and I want it back. Can anyone help?

  • Do you or your host have a back-up of your site?

    No I don’t think so ??

    That’s really unfortunate and I’m sure very upsetting. If the “hijackers” are actually using your content, you’ll probably need to consult a lawyer — it’s not really a WP problem and not much anyone here can do.

    Actually you may be okay… You may lose the domain, but you might have the content.

    Just because you lost the domain does not mean you lost the content. Can you still log in to your webhost’s admin panels and see your files?

    The domain was transferred to the Japanese person on 20th April, as per who is. Normally, a Google search will show some cache results. Nothing shows up now. The domain is not hosted anywhere as it shows now. If the domain is renewed on 20th April, it must have lapsed at least one/two months before that date, a time lapse of about 3 months. So, I do not think there is any possibility that the content can be recovered from the hosts.

    Also, it is wrong to call it a hijack now, as the owner seems to have neglected it and allowed it to lapse. The period for reclaiming by the registrant is also over. So, what will a lawyer do now?

    The domain name was transfered.

    Your domain name is separate from your data. Otherwise you could never move your domain to a new location ??

    Do you remember who it is you pay to host your website? Not register the domain, the hosting.

    @ipstenu,
    You are right. As you can see from the opening para by the OP, it is wrong to say that the content was hijacked along with the domain ionaminton.com because the domain now does not use any blog contents. So, the contents were not hijacked. The present owner seems to be an investor in domains. So, as you say, if the complainant’s hosting is still in existence, the contents can be recovered. What if hosting renewal also expired along with domain?

    They tend not to go hand in hand, as odd as that may sound. If the hosting expired at the same time as the domain, then yes, all is lost forever. There remains a chance it did not, and the first thing to do is figure out who the host was, pick up the phone, and talk to a human bean ??

    @ipstenu,

    Yes, right. That is exactly what is left, and that is what I suggested.
