Blog Hacked – Please Help!

  • Hi,

    My blog has been hacked.

    I just found out. The blog now has a script running instead of my blog, with a message from the hacker. I can’t login to the admin area either.

    How do I restore this?

    So far as I can tell, I still have the files on my installation and the database is ok.

    Where do I go from here?

    I really appreciate any help!

    It’s self hosted, version 2.8

    well….gotta figure out where the script is coming from!
    (viewing your browser source code may help)
    -simple place to start most likely, does your index.php file have any code inserted into it? Does you .htaccess have any sort of strange redirect?
    -Gotta figure out how the code is coming in by looking at your wp files (look at the timestamps of your files to see any that have been edited reently), looking for extra strange files, etc
    -once we figure out where the bad code is, we can fix it, then upgrade immediately as you are using a vulnerable version of wp that is prone to hacks lately….
