Blog Feed only showing full text

The blog feed is only showing the full text of each post regardless of whether or not I selected summary or full text in the reading settings. Also, the featured photo associated with each post isn’t showing in the feed. I want to be able to include a photo in the feed along with the first 65 words of the post.
