• Hi,
I’m having problems with my blog page. Someone left a comment and when I tried to reply to it, it said I was replying as [my user name] however when I hit submit, I got an error saying you must be logged in to post a reply, which I was.

In Settings –> Discussion Settings, I temporarily disabled Users must be registered and logged in to comment, but now it says my new test reply was from anonymous, when I was logged in.

I have disabled plugings on WordPress 5.7.2 one by one and that didn’t resolve the problem. This is an auto-install from cPanel that’s a couple of weeks old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

To eliminate odd conflicts between various plugins and themes, try deactivating all plugins at the same time and switching to a default twenty* theme as well.

If you still have the same trouble, there could be something about your user data that has been corrupted. Registered user replies appearing as Anonymous should only occur if that user had been removed. But you couldn’t be removed if you’re logged in! Try creating a brand new admin user and see if that user has the same trouble.

If a new user has the same trouble, and your site is still in the plain vanilla state, there’s apparently a cookie handling issue external to WP. Try a different browser to see if that’s the problem. If the problem still persists, the server apparently is failing to relay the sent cookie to PHP and WP.

And I tried turning off my there and using the default.

If you also tried new user and different browser as I suggested without improvement, the only other thing I could suggest is refreshing all of the WP installation files by doing a manual “update”, except you can use files from the same WP version. But do obtain a fresh WP download as the file source.
