Also getting the same result. It chugs along for a while, then spits back POP3 connect: Error [110] [Connection timed out].

I’ve verified POP3 connectivity to the mailserver, port, account, and password using a desktop app, but since this is a hosted website, I have to way to test direct connectivity from the blog’s server to the mail server.

    Any thoughts?

Curses. I think I have an answer. We are hosted through Network Solutions. Network Solutions, GoDaddy, and a number of other shared hosting providers have decided that outbound intiated connections to any port other than 80 or 443 must be blocked.

I’m currently involved in an email argument with Network Solutions second tier support on this, but failing that I may wind up have to re-write the entire pop3 class using Curl which I’ve seen some rumors indicate may be able to get out using a proxied connection.

    Grrr…. Stupid shared hosting providers!

can you please clarify what the solution is for people who are not core programmers?

I am getting this error “There doesn’t seem to be any new mail.” when I open the wp-mail.php thingy (using correct path of course, https://mysite/blog/wp-mail.php)

I have activated “blog using email”, I use a shared hosting on a cPanel host.

I use own domain, and can download e-mail on outlook without SSL.

    Your assistance highly appreciated.

I am having the same issue – WordPress is working well except this one problem. I have a Network Solutions hosted website and email server. The email account definitely works, but the WordPress wp-mail.php gives a “Connection timed out” error message every time.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to work around the problem?

    Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem. Hosted at Network Solutions, email account works, set to port 2525 in WP but getting that “Connection Timed Out” error.

    Any suggestions?
