• Hi all,

My blog has gone blank. It was behaving wierdly for a while (i.e. returning a blank page each time I did anything, but if I returned to my dashboard it appeared fine and it had done what I’d asked), so I thought I’d clear my cache, and now it’s totally blank.

I’ve deleted the themes I updated and added today (I was hoping to change theme) as well as plugins I added today. Looking at the date stamps (via FTP) the last changed file is from yesterday, when it worked fine. However, now it doesn’t. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • https://www.crazycreatures.org/wp-login.php is working, so it could be a redirect/.htaccess issue. Can you login via https://www.crazycreatures.org/wp-login.php

    Hi esmi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I can login but it takes me straight to the blank page again.

could it be your index.php file? What is the last thing you did? Did you edit any themes? Last resort is to re-install your wordpress but don’t forget to make backups!

Well, the problem is that I was doing a number of things at the same time.
I went to enable a new theme, then noticed that a couple of my plugins had new versions, so updated them. I had also just backed up my website via FTP. There was a couple of tweaks I made to the code of the newly updated plugins, and I uploaded them to the wrong place. Now I’m fairly sure I’ve corrected everything.
But I didn’t notice exactly when things started to go wrong, as initially there was just sporadic wierd behaviour from wordpress, so I assumed it was just a glitch.

If I reinstall wordpress, what happens to my SQL database? Does it reset, or does it stay where it is?
Do I just reinstall wordpress and all my posts and pages are there?

If that’s the case, I’ll just reinstall, as I have backups.

If that’s the case it’s best if you re-install. Delete the files on your /public_html including your .htaccess then re-upload the wordpress files and folders again.

You need not delete your SQL database.

After all the files and folders have been uploaded, you will have to edit your wp-config.php file accordingly as per your previous SQL Database name, username and password. Hope it works!

Delete the files on your /public_html

except your wp-content folder….back that one up! Its got all your uploads and stuff in it. (you can delete the themes and plugins out of it…..but you’ll need some stuff from the folder)

Oh yes Rvoodoo thanks for reminding. That is very important! Delete files but not all of it! ??

I deleted it once on a reinstall…… You only make that mistake once! ??

Ok… will let you know how it goes!!

It looks like it might be something to do with the NextGEN gallery upgrade to v1.5.2. After I upgrade automatically, it says
    ‘Attempting reactivation of the plugin’
    Then places this symbol:
    ???

After that things just get worse. Everytime I save or update everything on wp-admin I get a blank page with that symbol.

I’m just going to do some tests to see if I can isolate that problem.

So, I’ve managed to rescue my blog, although it wasn’t easy. What a mess. I tried to replicate the error I had before but I’ve been unable to.

Anyway, thanks for your help all!

how did you do that…i got this same problem..but i don’t have any plugins installed…neither any new themes(only default)
    techufo.com/wp-admin…its total blank.
