Blog (alternate) template doesn’t link to posts

    Hi all.

    I have a fresh version of WordPress installed using the 2023 theme, with no third-party plugins.

    When creating a page, and selecting the Blog (alternate) template, the live site doesn’t allow you to click into each article. The post titles are being displayed as text instead of links.

    Any ideas on how to fix this? I’ve switched themes to older templates, and they all work fine.

    Hey,

    you can edit the “Blog (alternate)” template in the Site Editor. You’ll need to select the Post Title block there and enable the “Make title a link” toggle in the Inspector Controls sidebar.

    By default the Post Title block in the Blog (Alternative) template is not a link to the post.

    To change this, go into the Site Editor and edit the Blog (Alternative) template:
    ‘Appearance’ > ‘Editor’ > ‘Templates’ > ‘Blog (Alternative)’.

    Select one of the Post Title blocks within the Query Loop block and in the block settings look for “Link settings” and toggle the “Make title a link” option on.
    Save the template and view in front end and the post titles will now link to the post.

    FWIW, I’ve filed an issue to suggest changing Twenty Twenty-Three’s “Blog (Alternative)” template to make the post titles links by default.
