I had tried that with both sites a few times on live and staging sites and it did not help.

However… WooCommerce 5.9.0 was just released and, when I updated that from 5.8.0, the cart screen is now fine but the checkout screen is blank (it attempts to load the blocks and just hangs).

Exact same behavior on both sites live & staging with default themes and minimal plugins.

At that point, I tried updating Blocks to 6.2.0 again while WooCoomerce was at 5.9.0 and everything worked.

Well, that didn’t last long.

First time someone tried to check out, got an error with “Something went wrong. Please contact us for assistance.”

Got a failed order email but Stripe shows no record at all of the attempts that were made to process.

Had to roll it all back.

The issue is that with 6.2.0 Blocks and 5.9.0 WooComm, saved credit cards give an error.

Test cards and entering a new card from the payment screen work fine but saved cards do not.

Tried it with 3 users (logged in with their accounts) and had them try on their end. All the same issue. Stripe isn’t even getting the request for approval.

Thanks for those details! I noticed the plugin Payment Plugins for Stripe WooCommerce: by Payment Plugins is in use on the site. Currently, the Checkout block has limited payment gateway compatibility and is only explicitly compatible with our official Stripe extension.

With that in mind, I’d recommend the following:

1. Test checking out with a saved card while using the default WooCommerce-generated checkout page (not the Checkout block). This may be the only workable solution while using Payment Plugins for Stripe WooCommerce: by Payment Plugins.
2. Test the checkout page using our official Stripe extension. I tested this same flow on my own site with the current versions of the WooCommerce Blocks and Stripe extensions, and the saved card worked well on my end.

Unfortunately, that definitely isn’t it.

I was running WooCommerce Stripe Gateway 5.7.0 and only switched to the other plugin a couple days ago well after I had the other problems with Blocks & WooComm because I needed to run someone’s saved card for an order. Their plugin allows that from the order page while yours does not.

Also, that is only one of my sites that even has that plugin installed. The other is using the official plugin exclusively and is experiencing the same issues.

Hi @stellathirteen – in that case, can you please send us a system status report for the one using the official Stripe plugin and include a link to where we can see the issue on those sites? We won’t be able to debug the issue on a site where it’s not currently installed. I’d also suggest trying the steps included above on a site using the most recent version of Blocks and the official Stripe plugin to narrow down any issues between those two only.

I could but the problem is that it is not working for previous buyers with saved credit cards. I’m not exactly sure how to go about setting that up so you can reproduce it unless you are able to create an account, buy something, save the credit card, and then make a second transaction.

I can do it with a staging site on an existing account/saved card if you would be able to do that?

I have a test site with WooCommerce Blocks and our Stripe plugin both installed, and both on the latest versions. I also already have a saved card in my account there. When I go through the checkout process using the Cart and Checkout blocks, and selecting my saved card to pay with, everything works normally.

If the result is different on your sites, can you please explain, in as much detail as possible, what the steps are to reproduce and what versions of everything you have installed? (Latest would be best.)

Hopefully that will allow us to either suggest a fix, or test this on our end more accurately and reproduce the problem.

I have a test site set up with Twenty Twenty-One theme and only 3 plugins and I can reproduce the error every time.

The installed plugins are:
WooCommerce
WooCommerce Blocks
WooCommerce Stripe Gateway

I have a user with a saved credit card. That card works when you manually enter it at checkout.

If you select the option to use the saved card (same card) it will not work. On my live site, I get the error “handleCardAction: The PaymentIntent supplied is not in the requires_action state.” when someone tries to use a saved card.

On my test site, I get a more generic error “Something went wrong, please contact us” when I try to use a saved card.

If I deactivate Blocks and go to the old checkout page, it works. If I reactivate Blocks and it will not allow anyone (multiple users have all said the same thing to me) to check out with a saved card.

The above testing was done in Live mode with Stripe.

If I run Test mode with them, I get the exact same behavior. It allows checkout with 4242424242424242 when manually entered but it throws an error when that same test card is run as a saved card.

I’ve flushed and cleaned everything I can. Cleared transients, cache, regenerated everything, updated the database, etc. etc.

The problem seems to be in the Blocks plugin and I love the look of the cart/checkout pages but it’s killing my site.

I tried to replicate that scenario as best I could, but try as I might, I cannot get my own site produce this same error. ?? It works perfectly for me every time.

Additionally, I search our internal bug reports and documentation for any bug reports with that same error message, and there are none.

My hunch is that, somehow, this is something particular to your site or hosting environment. Do you maybe have another site you could test this on perhaps, maybe with another host? That would certainly help narrow this down.

I just created an entirely new site from scratch.

Added WooCoomerce, Blocks, and Stripe Gateway only.

Loaded test keys for Stripe and added a test product. I changed nothing else at all.

With the default WooCommerce checkout, it works perfectly. Test cards save and they work when used later.

When I activate Blocks, I get the exact same issue I’m seeing on my 2 other sites. Saved card transactions return the error “Something went wrong. Please contact us to get assistance.”

All 4 of these sites (2 live sites, 1 staging site, and the new test site) are hosted with Flywheel. I don’t have another host I can use.

Is there any other way I can debug this??

Edge & Chrome work on Windows. Safari works on Apple.

The issue appears to be isolated to Firefox.

Have had 2 users tell me it did not work with their Apple device so it’s possible (but I can not confirm) that they had Firefox loaded on their iPhones.

Firefox version 94.0.2 (64-bit) specifically so far.
