    Hey,

I was hacked with h64decode content injection.

Managed to clean it, but the issue was lots of spam links coming in, like xyz.com/?stupid-giant-dildos/

The content no longer exists, so it throw it to the main page, which caused soft 404s and my sites to rank for unwanted keywords.

Resorted to .htaccess tricks to give a 404 to such requests, but they seemed to cause problems with the themes, menus, etc, and sometimes visual composer from working.

I was recommended to check out BBQ, but from what I see (and what little I understand), it seems to be blocking scripts from running.

Does it prevent spam links like the one above from coming in?

    Glad to help.

Why would you think that BBQ is “blocking scripts from running”?

The plugin has over 60,000 users and great ratings, which wouldn’t be the case if the plugin was blocking legitimate WP scripts.

I was reading another post and I probably misunderstood or miused the word scripts lol

I’m assuming this can be used to block those incoming spam links?

BBQ does block a lot of spam, malware, exploits, and other bad requests, but it’s impossible to block all of it. Miscellaneous queries, for example, such as the one you mention above, would not be blocked by BBQ. You may want to check out my other plugin, Blackhole for Bad Bots, which traps spammers and disobedient bots and blocks them from your site.

Alternately, you may want to check out BBQ Pro, which would enable you to add a custom pattern and block the weird spam requests you are getting. And even see the stats of how many times each spam query is blocked.

Gonna go ahead and close this thread. Feel free to post again if any questions. Thanks.
