Hi! I’m not a techie guy, but I think I can handle the basics. I’m trying to add a disallow rule for the MJ12bot (which, as far as I’ve read out there and checking my access log file, it’s really annoying and a high CPU-executions consumer) but there’s no robots.txt file on my root folder. Does Blackhole change the location of the file? Where can I find it?

Anyway, is there any way I can block MJ12bot from constantly knocking on my site’s door? The plugin only offers whitelisting. Thank you!

    Glad to help:

    1) “there’s no robots.txt file on my root folder. Does Blackhole change the location of the file? Where can I find it?”

No, Blackhole never would change the location of the robots.txt file, because there is only one proper location for it: the public root directory of your site.

If you do not find any physical file named robots.txt, then WordPress generates one for you automatically. This is explained on the plugin settings screen, in the contextual Help menu, and in the plugin documentation just fyi.

    2) “is there any way I can block MJ12bot from constantly knocking on my site’s door?”

It’s not a feature of the free version but pro can do it. Using only free plugins, the easiest way to block MJ12bot is to install BBQ Firewall plugin. It is super lightweight and fast, and blocks MJ12 bot by default.

I hope this helps, let me know if I can provide any further infos.
