When I manually block ips on several of my sites, by selecting an entry from the Live Traffic list and clicking BLOCK IP, they show up in the block list but they all have an expiration of 5 minutes rather than being permanent which is what I want for the expiration. Why is this happening and how can they be made permanent when I am adding them?

  • Hi @cdx,

When you click Block IP from the Live Traffic View, the amount of time the IP is blocked is determined by the following field:

Wordfence -> All Options -> How long is an IP address blocked when it breaks a rule

You can change this duration from 5 minutes (default), all the way up to 1 month (maximum).

Alternatively, you can go into Wordfence -> Firewall -> Blocking, check the IP address you want, and click Make Permanent.

    Hi Dave,

Why isn’t permanent one of the options?

    Hi again,

The setting How long is an IP address blocked when it breaks a rule controls more than just the Block IP button. It also controls the duration of automatic rate limiting bans.

I do find it strange that there’s no separate setting to only control the duration of the button Block IP found on Live Traffic. I’ll ask the Wordfence team to see what they think about this.
