I just received the following email from Hosting (GoDaddy) who have now BLOCKED Backup & Restore.

I have not changed the settings in months, so it is not an issue at my end.

Just thought I would let you know because ALL GoDaddy customers using your plugin will now be BLOCKED.

I would love for you guys to get the problem sorted so I can get GoDaddy to UNblock it…

    Their message to me was:
“Our engineering team has been alerted to a problem with UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin creating excessive files and using too many server resources on your account. While we investigate a resolution, we are temporarily suspending the use of this too many server resources

In addition, we will be removing any UpdraftPlus backups that are older than seven days. The Managed WordPress Hosting Team maintains offsite daily backups for your site and those are always available within your account.

We have taken these steps to ensure that your website remains online. Should you have any questions, please contact our Customer Care Team.

(settings were for updates to be stored on a Cloud storage provider, which has nothing to do with godaddy)

    Hi,

This is what is on Godaddy’s website.

“For sites hosted on Managed WordPress plans, this plugin (UpdraftPlus) is blocked since it duplicates an existing backup feature”. Godaddy wants their users to use their own backup system.

    Thanks,
    Bryle

GoDaddy does not oppose unblocking this plug-in and we are not trying to force users into using our backups. If anyone from updraft wants to discuss what would be needed to be unblocked, we are happy to discuss with you.

I got this notice as well. In fact, the plugin can no longer be installed on the site that is using GoDaddy hosting.

The settings for the site included uploading the files to Google Drive, so none of the files should have been stored on the GoDaddy server.

The plugin was completely disabled, so I couldn’t delete backups or change any settings. So I deleted the plugin and thought I would reinstall it. That’s how I found out that it could no longer be installed.

What did Updraft do to piss off GoDaddy?!?

    Hi,

We are reaching out to GoDaddy to try and resolve this, we hope to reach a compromise whereby they remove us from their blocked plugin list.
Their reason behind this is duplicate functionality.
I can assure you, we did nothing to annoy GoDaddy!

I have been using my own cloud storage (like carricdesign) above.

If this doesn’t get resolved by godaddy – I am seriously going to consider changing hosts.

I am growing increasingly tired of GoDaddy interfering with things that ‘work’ for my website.

They disable loads of useful plugins, like search and replace… The time wasted to discover workarounds would have been better spent researching a different host.

What is missing from @godaddy managed WP backup is:

    1. One backup is a bad idea
    2. Only one backup on the same system is even worse
    3. Not having an offsite backup is crazy
    4. Allowing developers to give their client’s a copy of their current data is the right thing to do. I have Updraft set to make a back-up to my client’s cloud so they own their data all the time.
    5. Migrating from one host to another is super easy with Updraft. This is helpful when developing on my account and then moving to the client’s account.

UpdraftPlus needs to address this issue! This has been going on for several weeks. Your paying customers deserve an answer. I have subscriptions with Updraft Central to use their dashboard to run updates on my clients. These sites can’t use UpdraftPlus. I am paying for these subscriptions. The GoDaddy issue is regarding backups, but ALL Functionality for Updraft is blocked

We need more info than your pathetic response 2 weeks ago on this forum “we did nothing to annoy GoDaddy!”

Updraft needs to provide regular updates to your paying customers on the status of your Blocklist with GoDaddy.

I have similar problem also on servers not of GoDaddy.
My hosting provider does not recommend using UpdraftPlus.
For some time now the consumption of I/O resources when I backup even the database is 100% with many errors.
In many sites of my customers use UpdraftPlus Premium, but if that happens now, I will not renew the purchase.
For all sites I use LiteSpeed shared servers, all with with good resources (3 vCPU – 4 GB vRAM – 10 I/O Mb/s – 30 Simultaneous PHP processes), but it is becoming really difficult to use UpdraftPlus even setting the limit to 25MB for zipped packages.
    The error is always:
    /usr/bin/zip -n .jpg:.JPG:.jpeg:.JPEG:.png:.PNG:.gif:.GIF:.zip:.ZIP:.gz:.GZ:.bz2:.BZ2:.xz:.XZ:.rar:.RAR:.mp3:.MP3:.mp4:.MP4:.mpeg:.MPEG:.avi:.AVI:.mov:.MOV -v -@ /home/user/public_html/wp-content/updraft/backup_2022-08-12-1746_sitename

    Hi @gdm57 @kathymarcom @paulbself @fixya @carricdesign

Would it be possible for you to send log files from before the ban to our support desk: https://updraftplus.com/paid-support-requests/

We are trying to work with GoDaddy to get UpdraftPlus working on their hosting again

Hi, Yes, I am willing to help resolve this problem by sending log files from multiple affected WordPress sites. Can you please advise how we locate the log files you need? I cannot activate the Updraft plug-in to find any backup logs.
    thanks.

I can send the log files (I have two available from before the ban), but the paid support ticket system requires an order number for a purchase, but this client uses the free version. How would you like me to send the files?

    @carricdesign

Just enter any random number in the order number field.
Can you also mention GoDaddy somewhere in the ticket?
Thank you for doing this. We really do appreciate it.
