• This problem occurred while on 3.8.3. Upgrading to 3.9 had no effect. We host a multisite installation on WPengine. As of Tuesday evening when editing a post and attempting to add images through the modal, the spinner continued but no images showed in the window. When in the dashboard and selecting “media–>library” all images appear but not in the edit post modal. We are forcing SSL in the admin area and have never had this problem until now. Google dev tools says:

[blocked] The page at ‘https://smc.temple.edu/trayes/wp-admin/post.php?post=23550&action=edit’ was loaded over HTTPS, but ran insecure content from ‘https://smc.temple.edu/trayes/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=atd_settings&ver=20120221’: this content should also be loaded over HTTPS.

This is happening within the <div class=”media modal wp-core-ui”>. All image URLs appear to be using https://

This happens network wide on all blogs including those with no plugins and default WP themes (twentyfourteen). We have no access to nginx.conf or any other server configuration. I submitted a ticket to WPengine on Wednesday morning which got escalated but little response from them. Over 24 hours and no resolution. Any ideas from the community?

Follow up: Apparently WPengine made a change to our SSL configuration which included Strictly force SSL objects on 4-23-2014 which caused us to lose media and some plugin functionality. This was reverted and our issues were resolved.
