• Hi Greg,

still love the plug in, but today a wave of SPAM was reaching all clients by the use of the Contact Form. Every Client get the same Message 3 or 4 times form the same “Person”. I try to figure out how i can protect the Contact Form from Spammers and Bots… In the Support Area here nothing found and in the documentation nothing found as well, any hints?

    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
does the contact form send the same message a few times or are these different messages from the same person?

In the first case it might be some kind of loop or conflict on the website that makes the plugin send the same message multiple times.

As for fighting the spam submissions you can find some tips here https://wpadverts.com/doc/spam-submissions/

It is mainly for the classifieds publishing but most of the tips will work with the contact form as well.

    Hi Greg,

my website is german, and the SPAM is in english or other languages, all comes from the same person and 3-5 times on EACH advert. I use all the things mentioned in the Article, only the tab “SPAM” i do not use, will this have effect into the contact form as well? If so i just put english words and words from other languages into this.

I have no problem with SPAM adverts as this is only open for registred users and then i also need to make it available via admin area, it is just the contact form…

    Hello Greg,

Can I suggest a feature similar to this plugin for the contact form https://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-private-message-rate-limiter/

    GUESTS
Guests would be rate limited by their ip address

I not use Buddypress… And i do not mean a normal contact form i just mean the integratet contact form for WPadverts…

@leogc im not saying you should use buddypress im only suggesting the feature to @gwin maybe he can create something similar without using buddypress

Aha, so that was for @gwin, better mark him directly in this cases as this was my support treat and looking for solutions. ??

Anyway, i am no willing to pay something additional just to stop SPAM. If @gwin will/can create something similar this should be included in the basics. As SPAM is something basical in the WWW…

    Hi,
yes, the Blacklisted Phrases are also used in the contact form so if someone will enter them in the message he should not be able to submit the contact form.

BTW. If you can send me a couple of the spam messages using the contact form at https://wpadverts.com/contact/ then it might help me when developing protection against spam in the future.

The future additions to the anti-spam protection will be added to the core version I am not planning to make these features paid.

    Good Morning @gwin

great then i just fill some english thing into this SPAM field and see what will happen. How should i send you this spam messages?

    (@gwin)

I think it will be best to put them into a file(s) and make it available for download for example using Dropbox to make sure my spam filter will not discard the email.

    Hi,
just create a new file using Notepad and paste there a couple of titles and the content of the messages it should do for now.

If you do not have a Dropbox account you can just upload it to the Media Library on your website and send me a link.

    Hello

I recommend the (iQ Block Country) add-on, I solved it with that.
