    Hi,
I’m using Wordfence plugin (free version) from a while. I have a question about the option “block ip”.
I often control the attacks to my site following this path: My Dashboard > Wordfence > Tools > Filter traffic. Here I select “logins and logouts” and a windows opens with a list of correct, failed and blocked logins.
When I find “failed login”, I usually click on “Run Whois” and in the window that opens I click on “Block IP” or “Block Range”.
Yesterday I blocked some IPs but when today I controlled, they weren’t blocked anymore. Usually, when I block a “range”, the block remains. On the contrary, when I block a single IP, the block doesn’t remain.
Can you help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards

Hi @thebigbang, thanks for getting in touch with us on this.

If you use the button on Live Traffic to block an IP address, the duration is controlled by the option “How long is an IP address blocked when it breaks a rule” in Wordfence > Firewall > All Firewall Options > Rate Limiting.

This number can be set a value ranging from 1 minute to 1 month. You can lengthen your current setting if you’d prefer to keep the IPs blocked for a longer period.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

Hi @thebigbang thanks for getting back to me,

Whilst there is no set ‘recommendation’, we usually recommend a higher value up to a month if you notice you’re being hit with attacks fairly frequently, as blocks in the minutes or hours might only cover an automated period before the attacking computer tries again.

If your site isn’t under constant attacks, a shorter to medium duration such as 6 hours will suffice.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi @thebigbang,

I hope that changing those values have done the trick. Please don’t hesitate to open another topic on the forums if you need any further assistance with Wordfence in the future.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
