• My host, as with many, limits INODE usage. My 20 + sites are coming to their limit, so I can check inside the file manager where the usage is. It turns out the blocks folder in wordpress, is using a ton, 700+, you can see here:

Is there a way to reduce this, will you look at reducing in the next release?

  • No, you cannot reduce this as the folder is part of the WordPress core. Without this or even missing parts of it, WordPress would no longer be usable for you.

I haven’t seen a restriction to inodes in hosting for ages. It’s amazing that this still exists. An inode usually represents a single piece of data in the server’s file system. The more small files there are, the more inodes are used. I would therefore advise you to check whether you have a lot of small files in other places. With regard to WordPress, I would look at the wp-content directory in particular. Do you have any directories there with a lot of small files, e.g. daily log files from a plugin you use? There may also be something like this in wp-content/uploads/.

Otherwise, you should contact your host’s support team. Or change it.

I know, it sucks, but a lot of budget hosting does have this restriction, especially shared hosting, guess its to limit people and keep things running smoothly…not get blocked up etc….I did check, and that was by far the biggest INODE hog, the blocks folder.
