• Hi,

I updated to 5.7 today. And when I went to add a new post I discovered that the page wouldn’t load. Looking at the console it was throwing errors related to the block editor, jquery errors.

I deactivated all the plugins, and it worked again. Then I slowly activated them one by one and ended up activating them all until it broke. I deactivated the last activated, and that still didn’t fix the issue. So I started the process over, but this time it wouldn’t even work without any plugins active.

I added them all again, and accidently activated Gutenberg plugin which I didn’t think was necessary. It worked. And when I deactivated it broke.

So obviously WP isn’t recognizing the Gutenberg scripts?

Should I manually reinstall WP? Maybe something didn’t get written correctly?

BTW, the Front End is not affected, only the post edit pages.

The Gutenberg plugin adds features that are being tested for the core block editor, so “gutenberg” does not require using a plugin.

Have you tried also changing the theme to twenty-something to rule out a problem with the theme?

    Hi Steven,

Yes. I thought that it might be a conflict with Divi, so I changed it to the 2021 theme. Same issue. It wouldn’t run the block editor without Gutenberg.

I fear I’ll have to reinstall the core, and hope it’s not something written to the database that triggers the call a script that broke it.

When you’re debugging, make sure you keep any caching plugins (or server-based caching) disabled.

update: The problem I met in chrome is because I disabled the visual editor when writing in user profile setting. and it works fine after uncheck the box.
So maybe there is something wrong in safari.
