• I have started to convert my website from classical to block editor and having serious issues.

    Running 6.0.1 on Ubuntu Linux 22.04 (Linux 5.15.0-46-generic x86_64), Apache/2.4.54 (Ubuntu), 10.6.7-MariaDB-2ubuntu1.1, PHP version 8.1.9.

All tests pass on a Site Health Check.

I am using Cloudflare with a bypass Page Rule on wp-admin, so edits to pages should not be cached.

Issue 1. Changes to Posts are arbitrarily saved, or not. I find changes I have made are sometimes saved, but not always. Usually the changes are there if I do a preview, but they do not seem to stay when I publish the post – the link above is an example in point – it reverted to its classical editor original after being published as a block editor post. Frequently, if I go to edit a post, I am told a newer auto draft is available, and I have to restore it. Indicating the latest version was not saved.

Issue 2. I successfully created some new categories for a post this morning. However, they do not appear in the Category list when I tried to add them to another block editor post. They do however appear in the Category list of a classical editor post.

Issue 3. Blocks seem to get corrupted and then need repairing. It is nice to have a repair function, but why should they corrupt in the first place?

Issue 4. After adding a block to reusable blocks, they do not appear to be available in resuable blocks when editing a new post.

I have 100’s of pages to convert and am disappointed that the Block Editor seems to be unreliable.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I have noticed that when trying to edit this page again, even though it uses the Block Editor, the URL said editor classical. I have now changed the default WordPress editor setting to block editor and the missing categories have suddenly appeared. Could this be the issue?

One of the most common reasons behind WordPress block editor-related problems is a conflict with one of your installed plugins. Therefore, the first and easiest solution we would recommend to you is to disable all plugins from your WordPress website.

After fighting for a week with the Block Editor I have found zero advantages to using it. It slows down production of new posts, I cannot rely on posts or categories being saved properly. Post/Category relationships do not work. Blocks continually need repairing.

One post, I had to create a new post and copy the content to it in order for relationships to work.

It appears to be an utter shambles. I have not found a solution in disabling plug-ins. The interface is terrible.

So for my sanity’s sake, I am going back to the classical editor.
