I am in the process of migrating a site from one theme to another while changing the sitebuilder as part of this process as well. For this purpose I have set up a test environment to clean up the site and re-create the content.

I noticed that I cannot create or edit any posts that have the type “product” with the WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg?) but I only see the “classic” editor.

If I am editing an article or a page or any other post type, the block editor is presented but for all products, I can only see the “classic” editor.

I have tried updating WooCommerce to the newest version but I am not even sure whether this is an issue with WooCommerce. As for any search on the internet and support forums, every one has the opposite issue (they want to get rid of the block editor and user classic only).

When I had WPBakery installed, I always had the option to switch from WPBakery to classic mode – with products as well. But now with products I only see the classic editor.

Could you, please, help me with an instruction on how to user block editor for products?

Hi @jakublutter,

You are seeing the classic editor for your products because that is how WooCommerce works. From what I’ve read it’s on their roadmap but I do not know the timeline for implementation.

As a side note, please update your version of WordPress, the current version of WP is now 5.8.1. Outdated versions of WordPress are a security risk.

Hi @jakublutter,

That’s right, it’s the default view with the Classic Editor as correctly @bigmoxy mentioned.

You can see both the long and short product descriptions are using the Classic Editor. There are plans to migrate to the Block Editor in the future but not really in the near future. You can check out updates following the WooCommerce Developer Resources website.

Try this snippet to enable the Gutenberg Editor for the long description section when you add/edit products:
```
// Enable Gutenberg in WooCommerce
function activate_gutenberg_product( $can_edit, $post_type ) {

    if ( $post_type == 'product' ) {
        $can_edit = true;
    }
    return $can_edit;
}
add_filter( 'use_block_editor_for_post_type', 'activate_gutenberg_product', 10, 2 );
```
Add the code to your child theme’s functions.php file or via a plugin that allows custom functions to be added, such as the Code Snippets plugin.
