    Hi,

Since WP 6.4, the Recipe Maker block is showing:

“This block contains unexpected or invalid content – Attempt Block Recovery” with all the content of the recipe card laid out below as if it was just part of the post.

Going in to the editor seems fine. This happens when saving a draft or published post. But, clicking on Block Recovery does just that. So, nothing is being lost, but we are keen to know what’s going on.

    Thanks, Sean.

    Hi Sean,

I have not experienced this myself yet or heard of others with this problem.

It could be some kind of compatibility problem. Could you try using the Health Check plugin to test? We have a video in our documentation showing you exactly how to do that: https://help.bootstrapped.ventures/article/108-debugging-plugin-problems

Specifically the compatibility mode shown in the video where it basically tests a default theme and no other plugins active.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at that tomorrow, I’ve been at it all day, now pushing midnight.

Ok, so I’m still awake. I watched your video. However, this is a Gutenberg backend editor issue, so I can’t imagine how this could be a compatibility issue with any plugins, although I did turn off javascript optimisations, but again, that’s not for the back, I don’t think. Everything is fine on the front side. To clarify, this has only started happening since the latest WP update to 6.4

Other plugins can definitely be affecting the block editor as well.

Since I don’t experience any issues on my sites, and I cannot replicate the problem on a clean site using WP 6.4 and WP Recipe Maker only, it’s most likely a compatibility problem.

The Health Check plugin makes it easy to confirm without affecting your visitors, so I almost always recommend it as the first step when debugging issues.

Self-delted. Still looking. I thought I found the problem.

In a staging site, so no other plugins, only WP Recipe Maker, WP 6.4.1 and the default 2024 theme. Tested with both php 8.1 and 8.2, same problem, and also on the site discoverspain.today

However, if I ignore it and go somewhere else, nothing is lost, because it only does this if no changes are made to the recipe card. If any changes are made to the card, no problem. I can also just recover the block, and all is well.

So, this is more an annoying problem than anything else. We can still go about our business and the sites are otherwise working fine. Maybe it’s something in core that will get fixed, eventually.

Apologies for not responding earlier. I was working on the 9.0.0 update and wanted to get that one out of the way first.

I tried replicating the issue on my end but haven’t been able to do so. Do you have the issue on this test site? Could you get me the exact steps you take when it happens?

    Thread Starter Sean

    (@sean-h)

1 cup pasta and 2 cups bacon? I must try that….no, I didn’t have this issue in there.

I figured you were busy frying bigger fish, so to speak. And also, the problem seems to have gone away all on its own, not that it was even a big one to begin with.

In the meantime I have updated various things and also switched up to php 8.2, yet as much as I still try to re-create the issue, it seems to be gone. All systems normal, at this time. Let’s hope it stays that way.

I think I’m just going to chalk this one up as another random anomaly. Thanks all the same.

On another note, will you be offering a Black Friday special? My missus is very interested in your premium version, maybe for 2 sites.

Happy to hear things are working as expected again on your end as well. Do let me know if you experience any other issues at all.

    Hi there!

Just wanted to chime in on this topic. I’ve experienced the same issue that Sean mentioned above – the same “invalid block” warning seems to appear for me whenever I save a recipe in draft or update a recipe when my post is already published. But also as Sean mentioned, when I hit the “attempt” block recovery button, everything reverts back to normal with no issues.

I noticed this starting to happen when I updated to WordPress 6.4.1 – and this happens about every 3-4 recipe cards I edit (sporadically, no pattern to it). I did manage to capture a screengrab of it happening (but I can’t seem to attach it to this post). Please let me know if I can send the screenshot to an email address.

    Thanks!

I did have someone else contact me a few days ago with the exact steps to take to replicate this problem, so it’s on the todo list to look into it for the next update.

For now I recommend just ignoring it. It doesn’t actually break anything but that preview in the editor.

Don’t want to jinx it, but for us, the ‘problem’ seems to have gone away, and stayed away. At least we’ve been publishing quite a bit the last 2 weeks and nothing. But yes, when it did happen nothing actually went missing.

I just chalked it up to yet another glitch in The Matrix…the cat must have walked past the door, again….

    Hi again,

I wanted to let you know we just released WP Recipe Maker 9.2.0 which includes a fix for this “Invalid Block” error.

You can learn more about the update here: https://bootstrapped.ventures/wp-recipe-maker-9-2-0/

    Awesome – thank you!
