• I started blogging one year ago, and I chose GoDaddy for my hosting (BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER) and now am suffering all the time with their really cheap hosting, errors, downtimes, and useless support !

My wordpress based blog gets down several times a day, and I’m also suffering with the error “500 Internal server error” when I load my website, and I asked for their help numerous times but all I get was useless answers.

I even tried to upgrade my account to their 4 grid hosting (supposedly better), yet non of issues were solved, if fact things have became even worse !

I tried to google my frequent “500 internal sever error” problem just to find out that many out there are suffering the same problem with GoDaddy.

I heard turning of the FastCGI may resolve the problem, but I don’t know how to do that, do any one have any idea ? This will be my last chance with GoDaddy then I’m moving to another webhosting company.

The funny thing is that when I asked friends who are running similar blogs with other web hostings, they said their blogs were down maybe once or twice during a whole year, while my GoDaddy hosted blog gets down 10/20 times a day !!

Thanks GoDaddy for ruining my life and my hardwork !

Thanks for your great support and help. I have made my mind and am moving to another web hosting company.

I heard good stuff about IX WEBHOSTING and I might consider them. As for Go Daddy, I’ve had it !

A couple things to keep in mind

    Reading these two quotes:

As this is a shared hosting server

Its just that GoDaddy cannot handle my traffic (2000 visits/day), plain and simple.

    I know two important things.

First, you need to get off SHARED hosting and onto Cloud or VPS. Yes, it’ll cost more. You need it.

Second, get some caching going on. W3TC and WP Super Cache are the best two I know of.

Third. Learn to read your error logs because, as far as I can tell, you haven’t gone through them yourself yet. You’re getting enough traffic that you NEED to learn them, learn how to use top if you’re on a Linux box, and start studying how to optimize a server for WordPress.

Thanks for your useful remarks brother, though i would like to add more clarifications just to prove that GoDaddy SUCK BIG TIME !

GoDaddy reviewed my hosting account and gave me recommendations based on my traffic as follows:

    1. Go for VDS; which is valid option but after this nightmare experience with their support team and their services I’d never consider them even if I decide to go for VDS.

    2. They suggested that I may also upgrade my account from shared hosting to DELUX 4GH, which is Grid Hosting, meaning that they use several servers to provide me with more resources and sustain higher traffic (I presume this is more like the CLOUD you have suggested), and out of foolness, I agreed with the second option and I paid more and more.

The result of course was nothing but a total rip-off, nothing was improved, the problems kept coming up even on a higher scale ! and the support kept getting worse !

Moral of the day: NEVER consider GoDaddy if you ever think of a successful/smooth running website.

Just so everybody knows,,,my website has been down for over 3 hours now,,,and I’m not even considering to contact GoDaddy support team,, I know their answers already,,,way too well

    Feeling your pain ‘nana.

GDy lured me into their reseller program (along with 25 sites) with the assurance they had addressed issues they had concerning WordPress.

As soon as I started moving sites over – keep in mind most sites are my clients – the 500 errors began. For two weeks I was bounced around their customer service department, from newbies to managers, and received conflicting directions, snarky attitudes, and full blown denial. The pressure on my end was so intense, I began thinking ObamaCare was a good thing because I was surely going to become a ward of the state.

It got worse. Early in the process I got a new client. I registered their domain and sought the assurance of one of the CS agents that all was aligned with the new reseller account and nameservers. They said it need to be transferred and managed to loose the domain – for 60 days. Nice.

During this hellish time my research revealed that GDy had the same problems a year ago. (But they reassured me their problems w/WP were resolved. Huh.)

It took two months for me to get it through my thick head that these people were whacked – and another two months to get the web side of my business back in order. Lost six clients.

The good news is that the experience drove me to enroll at the Keyword Academy and retool my entire business model. Never will I put myself through the stress of depending on an entity that is wholly committed to incompetence.

I hope your experience has some silver lining as well.

Sorry that you had to go through all of this, must have been really one hell of an experience with GoDaddy !

Like you said GoDaddy is doing a perfect job when they assure new customers they had addressed issues they had concerning WordPress, obviously NOT.

I started making my backup for the of my files on the server, then the second step is to cancel the GDy account and say goodbye to AGONY.

    Cheers to that!

Wow this is a bash GoDaddy thread. LOL I have had nothing great experiences with GoDaddy and WordPress so maybe it is isolated to a particular server that you are on? My GoDaddy sites only generate 500 errors when i make mistake in testing things out and i have never gotten a 500 error that was not a direct result of my testing either .htaccess or php.ini or PHP coding modifications. In the last year my sites on GoDaddy have been down 1 time for a very brief period. A lot of what you are saying is very exaggerated and some of it is a lie so maybe you have a motive. Your site is not getting 2000 visitors a day so that is an outright lie that anyone who has a website can see. Maybe you are just a link troll? In any case you were advised to check your error logs and you didn’t bother to do that – that is foolish or maybe you are just making this all up. If I had not seen that you made a couple of outright false claims / lies i might have considered that some of what you were saying was true, but i think that the only goal was to get your links posted to your website and you were never really looking for help.

…and just in case anyone is wondering about FastCGI and WordPress. You should not be using FastCGI with WordPress. If you do you will run into script execution problems. In GoDaddy check your Extension Manager. By default fastcgi (.fcgi extension) should not be set to run under WordPress (php). if you have set WordPress to use FastCGI in the GoDaddy Extension Manager then you will get 500 errors guaranteed. With a good caching plugin and using PHP CGI you achieve the same speeds or better as FastCGI.

GoDaddy support team finally did something to help me resolve this 500 internal server error issue, they reviewed my error log and gave me some recommendations to try.

Now, the blog is running much better than before and I didn’t get the 500 error for a few days, hopefully it stays that way.

If anyone’s getting this 500 error with wp based blog & GoDaddy hosting, pm me and I shall try to give you the hints that may resolve your problem.

Problem resolved, thanks to everyone !

@bananaq8, could you possibly throw me a couple of things you were told to fix this issue? I seem to be having similar issues. My site runs fine and then comes to a crawl and throws out 500 internal server errors as well. My htaccess file is fine and plugins/theme/code too.

A few days ago, there was a problem with the servers my site runs on, but now GoDaddy says everything is fine, but I’m continuing to receive these errors. The funny thing is, most of my staff seems fine except with some slowness here and there. A couple of my staff receive the 500 internal server error, but not at the frequency I am.

I’m very good with this code, but I cannot seem to figure this out. I tried the FastCGI switch too, but no help.

500 errors are generic in nature. You need to listen to Ipstenu and check your server’s error logs. This is the only way to determine the exact nature of your errors.

It may very well be GoDaddy and their servers however – it may not be server related at all. I’ve seen heavily traffic’d sites have issues due to a bad plugin causing too many MySQL connections. But this is only one possible cause.

I guess the point is, we’d be happy to help you find a resolution to your problem, if you can provide us with the exact nature of the error.

    wampdog29

    (@wampdog29)

Yes, I have done this. I really just wanted to see what GoDaddy told bananaq8 as that seems to have fixed his issues.

My error log is kind of weird to be simple about it. I don’t really see anything that is corresponding with when the issues happen. Again, the errors really only affect me mostly. And, the 500 error is very odd today as it’s now about every hour or so that this occurs for maybe 15 to 20 minutes. So, it’s about an hour of site running fine, to 20 minutes of it being down, again only for myself. Not a traffic issue either, trust me.

Right now, it’s running fine again. Super fast. I’ll delve into my error log again to see.
