When searching my site I get WordPress database error: [Query was empty], it doesnt matter if result is empty or not. https://timmi.pointclark.net/
‘wpdberror’ prins before container div starts.
I have to refresh the index page several times to get rid of the error message, if that is a clue.
I never modified any core functions and only translated the relevant parts of search.php from Blix to Norwegian.
This may belong in the troubleshooting section, I’m not sure if it’s theme related.
    Any ideas?

  • Well, it appears to crop up due to the ?? appearing in the button text. It’s generating a search query of:

    ?s=what&searchbutton=S%F8k

Removing the searchbutton portion of the query, or changing the searchbutton value, clears the error. For example, changing it to:

    ?s=what&searchbutton=Sok

    works as expected.

I can’t duplicate the problem on my test site–with or without the Blix theme, and with or without a hexadecimal/character entity in the search button text. So I can’t say why it’s happening, but it does appear to be related to that hexadecimal notation causing a conflict of some sort in your setup.
